A police officer was stabbed by an African suspect during a standoff outside a migrant reception center in Switzerland this week, according to reports.

The harrowing incident unfolded just before 9 a.m. on Tuesday in Lausanne, capital of canton Vaud.

Authorities were alerted about an aggressive man brandishing a blade at the Lausanne Vidy Administrative Center, which is home to the Vaudois Migrant Reception Establishment.

“I saw a man with a knife, surrounded by police,” a bystander told local media.

Footage shot by witnesses shows a man holding a knife while surrounded by at least six officers, some with weapons drawn.

The suspect can be seen throwing the blade on ground at one point before quickly picking it back up.

Officers continue to shout orders as the suspect charges back and forth across a grassy area near an office building.

“During the intervention, the strongly oppositional and threatening individual injured one of the police officers with a bladed weapon,” cantonal police explained in a statement.

“The injured agent was taken care of and brought to hospital by an ambulance. His life is not in danger.”

The suspect was eventually apprehended and later identified as a 39-year-old male of Algerian nationality. His immigration status is unclear.

An investigation is ongoing.

Just a day prior to the Lausanne episode, a 14-year-old Algerian was arrested after a Nigerian man was stabbed on a street in the Swiss city of Basel.
