A preteen suspect was arrested after he stole a forklift and damaged at least 10 vehicles during an hour-long pursuit in Michigan over the weekend, according to reports.

The wild incident unfolded at around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday evening in the university city of Ann Arbor.

Authorities were alerted about a juvenile attempting to steal a construction vehicle from Forsythe Middle School and responding officers encountered the hijacked machine nearby, the Ann Arbor Police Department (AAPD) explained in a statement.

AAPD released more than 30 minutes of dashcam footage from the chase, but shorter clips have been circulating on social media.

“Multiple officers initiated a pursuit of the vehicle at speeds of 15 to 20mph with emergency lights and sirens on. During the pursuit, the driver of the stolen vehicle traveled through the Georgetown Boulevard neighborhood, striking approximately ten parked vehicles,” AAPD said.

After approximately 30 minutes, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies picked up the chase after the suspect crossed the M-14 bridge.

The pursuit lasted another half an hour before the suspect finally stopped and was taken into custody and brought to a juvenile detention center.

Authorities determined the forklift was left unlocked and the suspect had located a key hidden inside the cab.

No injuries were reported during the episode.

An investigation is ongoing.
