Sen. Klobuchar Defends Hunter Biden Attending Same WH Dinner as AG Garland: ‘That’s a Separate Thing’
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) scoffed when asked if it was appropriate for Hunter Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland to attend the same state dinner days after Joe Biden’s son pled guilty to federal crimes.
The White House dinner just came days after Hunter reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors last week over a felony gun charge and two counts of failing to pay taxes. The Justice Department, which Garland heads, recommended a probation sentence.
“Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd asked Klobuchar on Sunday: “Do you think it’s appropriate for Hunter Biden to be at the same event as Attorney General Merrick Garland was in the sam week he accepted a plea deal?”
“You know, I think as the president explained, that’s his son. That’s a separate thing,” Klobuchar replied.

“And I would like to say about that, that decision was made by an independent prosecutor, who is a Trump appointed U.S. attorney, who had 10 years of experience, well-respected. [The] Philadelphia Inquirer reported that he was a registered Republican. He looked at the facts and evidence and made that decision,” she added.
Todd pointed out the “perception issue” posed by Hunter’s attendance at the dinner, which Klobuchar shot down.
“You always wish there were different perceptions, but that’s not reality,” Klobuchar argued. “Reality is whether or not someone is going to be able to get their insulin. And the president has made changes.”
“Reality is whether someone has a job. Reality is when they can go visit their grandma again in an assisted living. Those are people’s realities. Not who is sitting where at a state dinner,” she added.
Garland on Friday pushed back against whistleblower allegations that DOJ, FBI and IRS interfered with U.S. Attorney David Weiss’ investigation of Hunter Biden, claiming Weiss has “complete authority to make all decisions on his own behalf.”

Why is the ‘equal justice under the law’ crowd so quiet right now?
