Report: Tucker Carlson Creating New Media Company
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that ousted Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who is still under contract, is attempting to start up a new media company that could be ‘anchored’ on Twitter.
The report states that Carlson, along with former White House adviser and Daily Caller founder Neil Patel, is looking to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to fund the venture, which would “ultimately be driven by subscriptions” to long form content on the Elon Musk owned platform.
Carlson is also looking to bring in additional hosts for shows under the umbrella of his company, according to the report.
Sources cited in the article also claim that Carlson recently met with Twitter officials to discuss the plan, but that the new outlet would also have its own website and mobile news app.
Twitter recently launched the subscriber feature to encourage content creators away from rival platforms such as YouTube, which is notorious for censorship.
Twitter has also this week launched an ad-revenue-sharing program for creators.
The WSJ piece also states that Carlson’s people have discussed with Twitter ways of making content available through television sets in order to draw big advertisers.
It remains to be seen how this will impact Carlson’s ongoing feud with Fox News, who as we previously highlighted has claimed the host is in breach of his contract by posting content to Twitter.
Since Carlson reemerged on the platform, his content has garnered millions of views, while Fox News’ ratings have tanked.
