Officers Killed, Wounded During Gunfight at Philadelphia Airport

A police officer was killed and another wounded when car thieves opened fire on them at Philadelphia International Airport this week, authorities say. 

The shocking incident unfolded just after 11 p.m. on Thursday night in the City of Brotherly Love. 

Two Philadelphia Police Department officers were reportedly on their way into a terminal at the beginning of a shift when they encountered suspects breaking into a vehicle in the parking garage. 

During an ensuing confrontation, the suspects opened fire then fled the scene, leaving two officers down. 

Two more officers were injured in a car crash while pursuing the suspects.

The suspects reportedly dumped an 18-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He was pronounced dead a short time later. 

The officer who was killed was identified as a 50-year-old male whose son also serves on the Philadelphia Police force. 

His 60-year-old colleague was reportedly struck in the arm and is expected to survive. 

The suspects remain on the loose according to the latest available updates at the time of this writing. 

A $30,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to arrests of the killers.
