NY Appeals Court Stops Judge’s Ruling To Break Up Trump’s Businesses — Huge Blow To AG Letitia James

A New York appeals judge on Friday halted a judge’s order canceling Donald Trump’s businesses in the state.

Judge Arthur Engoron last month had unilaterally ruled that Trump was found guilty of committing fraud and ordered his business licenses to be revoked and his businesses dissolved.

But Judge Peter Moulton, an appointee of former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, paused that ruling after Trump’s attorneys argued in their motion to appeal that Engoron “clearly does not comprehend the scope of the chaos.”

“We thank the Appellate Division for staying the NY Attorney General’s and Judge Engoron’s overzealous attempt to cancel our New York business certificates,” the Trump Organization said in a statement put out by Eric Trump on X.

“Judge Engoron’s order erroneously sought to adjudicate the rights of non-party business entities that employ nearly 1,000 hard-working New Yorkers, have never been accused of any wrongdoing and, were never given their day in court – in clear violation of their fundamental Constitutional rights and Due Process.”

“We will continue to vigorously defend our company and our incredible employees from this politically-motivated persecution.”

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley also noted that James appeared to be “hell bent” on dissolving Trump’s businesses without due process.

“Those employees don’t really have a representative in court for their interest and there is also this question of just overkill,” Turley told “Ingraham Angle” guest host Kayleigh McEnany. “You know, there is evidence of overvaluing and undervaluing assets in this case. That has long been a problem in real estate.”

“But, putting that aside, one can understand under this New York law, which is really sweeping, that you could maintain this action. The question is why they are using the nuclear option,” Turley continued.

“This is one of the largest corporations in New York, it employs a lot of people, it has iconic properties. It seems like the attorney general is hell bent on dissolving this corporation.”

NY Attorney General Letitia James not only sought the cancelation of Trump’s business certificates but has also asked the court to impose a $250 million fine to bar Trump and his sons from running any New York businesses for the next five years, as well as block Trump from commercial real estate acquisition during that time.

Judge Moulton’s ruling will remain in effect until a full panel of appeals court judges review the case.
