Man Offers $100K for Return of Stolen Hard Drive, Adds Extra $100K to Fight Thief

A video going viral on social media features a man who was robbed offering the thieves who broke into his home $100,000 for the return of the hard drive they pilfered, as well as an additional $100,000 if he’s allowed to physically confront one of the thieves.

In the video, the man from Southern California argues the hard drive contains files that would be unimportant to the thieves, specifically saying it stores photos of a family vacation.

“I am offering $100,000 for the return of my hard drive,” the man says, going on to claim, “I was robbed by a Chilean jewelry heist gang run by a dude named Bryan Herrera-Maldonado, according to the police.”

“If you guys return this to me I will give you $100 grand,” he says, adding, “and I will throw in another $100 grand if you let me fight any one of the four pussies that was in my home. Pick whichever one you want.”

The man explains the thieves could have a lawyer write up a legally binding contract that he would sign assuring he will not pursue legal charges against them, and goes on to point out the drive merely contains five years of photos of his children.

“You probably thought it had banking info, or you thought it was a crypto wallet, but when you looked at it you realized it’s just a dad and his kids. Hopefully for your sake you didn’t throw it away, because if you did that would suck for you.”

The man concluded with a heartfelt address mocking the “cowards” who broke into his home.

“I know that you are all pathetic cowards. All four of you ran the minute I stepped into the house, and I know it must suck knowing that you are incapable of actually earning a living, and it must feel horrible that you know you aren’t real men. I’m giving you the chance to get $200,000 bucks. You are pathetic punks. Come and prove me wrong and get paid.”

The man was hailed on social media for putting his money where his mouth is with his unorthodox challenge to the thieves.

As for Herrera-Maldonado, the alleged criminal mastermind behind the theft, his exploits were documented at length in a Vanity Fair article last year titled, “Thieves in the Night: A Vast Burglary Ring From Chile Has Been Targeting Wealthy U.S. Households.”

It remains to be seen whether the criminals will make the next move and take the man up on his offer.
