A suspected home invader was shot dead by an armed resident in Indiana this week, according to authorities.

The harrowing incident unfolded at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night in Kokomo, a city approximately 60 miles north of Indianapolis.

A male homeowner was sleeping when another man broke into his residence for unknown reasons.

The homeowner confronted the intruder in his living room, and when he ordered the man to leave, a physical altercation ensued.

The victim, who was armed, discharged his firearm, striking the suspect at least once.

The homeowner then alerted police, who discovered the suspect suffering from a gunshot wound in the area of the front door.

“The male who entered the home, died as a result of his injuries. The deceased was identified as 51-year-old Scott Elliot Jones of Kokomo,” Kokomo Police explained in a statement.

“The homeowner was treated for minor abrasions and bruising from the altercation.”

An investigation is ongoing.
