Affirmative Action Disaster? Lost Titan Sub OceanGate CEO Didn’t Want To Hire ‘Old White Guys’

A shocking audio clip from OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who is one of the five people aboard the missing Titan submarine making headlines worldwide, previously admitted he may have intentionally hired lesser qualified employees.

During a 2020 Zoom interview, Rush explained “other sub-operators” typically hire ex-military submariners who tend to be “50-year-old White guys.”

Bragging his company is different from others, the CEO said, “I wanted our team to be younger, to be inspirational, and I’m not going to inspire a 16-year-old to go pursue marine technology, but a 25-year-old, you know, who’s a sub pilot or a platform operator or one of our techs can be inspirational. So we’ve really tried to get very intelligent, motivated, younger individuals involved because we’re doing things that are completely new.”

The remark is going viral online after internet users speculated the hiring of young, less experienced submariners could have contributed to the currently unknown issues that caused the vessel to disappear.

A 2018 TechCrunch article is also being reexamined now that the submarine has gone missing as it focused on allegations by a former OceanGate employee about safety issues.

Ironically, an older white man named David Lochridge who was once the OceanGate Director of Marine Operations, was fired by Rush in 2018 after he raised safety concerns over the company’s carbon fiber hull and other potential issues.

Another old white man, German citizen Arthur Loibl, told a news outlet called Bild he personally witnessed several “red flags” when he was onboard the Titan in 2021.

“It was a suicide mission!” Loibl said of his experience, noting, “The first submarine didn’t work, then a dive at 1,600 meters had to be abandoned.”

The German adventurer claimed “electrical issues” held back his Titanic tour by five hours and that a bracket of the craft’s stabilization tube had to be shoddily “reattached with zip ties.”

Loibl was joined by Rush and French Titanc expert Paul-Henry Nargeolet during his 2021 voyage, both men who are currently in the lost submersible.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the Titan vehicle will run out of “breathable air” by around 5 to 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
