A 12-year-old boy has been arrested following a chain of events that saw multiple victims injured during a violent robbery and carjacking in Washington D.C., according to reports.

On Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced the apprehension of the preteen, who is suspected of participating in a crime spree with at least four other suspects back on September 21 in the nation’s capital.

At around 9 p.m. that night, a food delivery worker was returning to his electric bicycle after a drop-off when he was surrounded by a group of suspects who attacked him.

As the assailants were attempting to flee with the stolen e-bike, a Good Samaritan who was parking his car nearby heard the victim’s cries for help and intervened.

“One of the suspects then jumped in the second victim’s vehicle, and the four other suspects surrounded the second victim and began to assault him,” MPD explained in a press release.

“The suspects took the second victim’s car keys, and all five suspects fled with the second victim’s vehicle.”

Both victims were taken to hospital and treated for injuries.

On Thursday, the 12-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Rob and Theft One (Stolen Auto).

The other suspects remain on the loose, according to the latest available updates at the time of this writing.

While 958 carjackings were reported to MPD in 2023, just 173 arrests were made in those cases. Incredibly, 62% of those arrested were juveniles, according to MPD data.
