10,000 Illegal Aliens Will Soon Cross US Border Daily, Warns Mexican President
The U.S. will soon see 10,000 illegal migrants entering its southern border every day, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador warned Friday.
Obrador blamed the U.S. sanctions against socialist countries like Cuba and Venezuela for the migrant influx in the U.S.
From the Associated Press:
Mexico’s president said Monday that about 10,000 migrants per day are heading to the U.S. border, and he blamed U.S. economic sanctions on countries like Cuba and Venezuela for the influx.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said the number of migrants reaching Mexico’s northern border with the United States was partly due to about 6,000 migrants per day crossing into Mexico from Guatemala over the past week.
He said many of those migrants are traveling on a route through Central America that includes the jungle-clad Darien Gap region between Panama and Colombia.
López Obrador seemed to join Colombian President Gustavo Petro in blaming the situation on U.S. sanctions on countries like Venezuela and Cuba, whose citizens make up a large part of the migrant flow. Experts say economic mismanagement and political repression are largely to blame for the tide of migrants leaving those countries.
Former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson had warned in 2019 that 1,000 crossings a day constitutes a crisis that “overwhelms” the immigration system.
“On Tuesday there were 4,000 apprehensions,” he said. “I know that a thousand overwhelms the system. I cannot begin to imagine what 4,000 a day looks like, so we are truly in a crisis.”
Now the U.S. is seeing 10x more under Joe Biden in 2023.
The influx of illegal aliens has become so dire that the Biden regime has started resuming building a border wall and deploying Secretary of State Antony Blinken and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to Mexico on Wednesday for damage control.
“Our two countries are being challenged by an unprecedented level of migration throughout our hemisphere,” Mayorkas said, referring to Mexico, adding mass deportations of Venezuelan migrants would commence.
“We have made a determination it is safe to return Venezuelan nationals who arrived in the United States subsequent to July 31 and do not have a legal basis to remain here.”
