Politico: New York Mayor Eric Adams bussed migrants to Texas, Florida, and out of the country, too
Look up the word hypocrite in the dictionary and you should see a picture of any Democrat mayor of a sanctuary city. Case in point, Mayor Eric Adams in New York City. Left-leaning Politico is reporting on documents that show Adams bussed illegal aliens sent to his city from Texas to other cities and even other countries.
After throwing hissy fits and whining for months since Governor Abbott began sending illegal aliens from Texas to New York City and other sanctuary cities, we discover that the mayor is doing the same thing, just a little bit differently. Instead of paying for a bus to transport illegal aliens as a group, the city purchases individual tickets for them so that they can go wherever they want to go. That includes sending them to Texas, Florida, and even to countries in South America. One was sent to China.
Adams had the audacity to complain that the illegal aliens were sent to NYC under duress, that they were made to get on the busses though they didn’t necessarily want to go to New York. This is a common trope among the open border advocates. They want you to think that that mean Governor Abbott is just rounding up poor, innocent migrants and sending them off to parts unknown against their will. Hogwash. They are asked if they would like transportation out of the city they are in in order to get to another city like New York City or Washington, D.C., or even Los Angeles. They are signing up to go because they either want to go to that city or they want to use the trip to get closer to where they want to end up. It’s a free ticket for them.
Illegal migrants aren’t crossing the southern border to live in Texas or Arizona or another border state, at least not all of them. Many are crossing the border so they can get in our country and then try to get elsewhere to reunite with family or others. The vast majority of these migrants are not refugees or coming for any other reason than for economic opportunities. That does not qualify them for asylum in the United States, as immigration laws are currently written. They just know that in Joe Biden’s America, once they are here, they will probably be able to stay here. It will be years before cases work through the system and in the meantime the illegal aliens live their lives in the United States.
Between April 2022 and April 2023, New York City spent around $50,000 to resettle 114 migrant households in cities around the U.S. and the globe, according to information obtained exclusively by POLITICO through a public information request. Some were sent to countries in South America — and one all the way to China.
The most common destinations were Florida, which received 28 families, and Texas, which received 14.
That represents a fraction of the nearly 79,000 migrants who entered the city since last spring, and is thousands fewer than Gov. Greg Abbott has sent out of Texas. But the fact that New York City paid for trips to Republican strongholds could further inflame national tensions on a subject that is sure to influence both Congressional races and President Joe Biden’s reelection bid.
The ugly rhetoric coming from Adams and aimed at red state governors has been pure theatrics. Last fall he said on MSNBC, “This was part of a political ploy and that’s what we need to understand.” He called the arrival of busses transporting illegal aliens to NYC a political stunt, and he accused Governor Abbott and then-Governor Ducey, along with DeSantis of using migrants as political pawns. It turns out that Adams is doing the same as the red state governors in order to reduce the burden on his city, only on a ridiculously small scale.
Adams cried racism because Abbott sends migrant buses to sanctuary cities that are governed by black mayors. Abbott has sent busses to Philadelphia, which has a white mayor. The point isn’t the color of the mayor’s skin but the virtue-signaling coming from the mayors of these cities. They are happy to lecture on how they welcome everyone, despite legal status, so Abbott is taking them up on their words. They should be welcoming these people with open arms and help Texas and other border states with the overwhelming burden the porous southern border creates. When every state becomes a border state because of the stubborn incompetence of Joe Biden and DHS Secretary Mayorkas, then suddenly sanctuary cities can’t possibly handle migrants. The number of migrants being bussed out of Texas is a drop in the bucket compared to the number of illegal migrants crossing the border on any given week.
Abbott’s office said its busing program is designed to provide relief to Texas towns far smaller than New York that have been overrun, and that the mayor has touted New York City’s sanctuary status in the past.
“Less than three weeks ago, Mayor Adams said busing migrants is ‘morally bankrupt.’ Where is all the outrage and condemnation from the White House and Democrats for one of their own sending migrants out of town, out of state, and even out of the country?” Abbott spokesperson Andrew Mahaleris said in a statement. “Instead of these hypocritical charades, Mayor Adams needs to call on President Biden and Congress to step up and do their jobs to secure the southern border.”
DeSantis’ office did not comment on the new data. Abbott has sent around 9,700 asylum seekers to New York City while DeSantis has flown about 85 migrants to Massachusetts and California.
The Biden border crisis has exposed the Democrats for the hypocrites they are. If the mayors of sanctuary cities want to welcome everyone, as they claim, then they should have resources and facilities in place to do so. Suddenly, when they are taken up on their rhetoric, there is no room or money to handle a few busloads of people.
