Governor Youngkin sends National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin recently traveled to Austin at the invitation of Governor Abbott to receive a briefing on the Biden border crisis and the current situation on the southern border. Abbott wrote to all 49 of his fellow governors asking for help in securing the southern border. No Democrat governor responded but Republican governors are stepping up to help as Texas shoulders the majority of the border crisis.
Hosted fellow Governors in Austin yesterday for a briefing on Texas’ historic border security mission.
I urged them to join Idaho & Florida in support of our response.
Biden’s open border policies have made EVERY state a border state.

Governor Abbott said at the time that as far as he knows, no one state has led an effort to prevent people from entering the United States illegally. He reminded all that it is the job of the federal government and Joe Biden’s responsibility to secure the border. He has failed miserably and it is intentional. If Joe Biden wanted to do his job and protect American sovereignty and protect its residents, the border would be secured. Instead, Joe Biden issued executive orders on his very first day in office to end the policies and agreements used by the previous administration. Those policies were successful and the border was more secure than it had been in years. Like a petulant child, Joe Biden wants to do everything the opposite way from the previous administration and this is the mess we get. Illegal immigration is at historic highs. Our country may never recover after about three years of such abuse of our immigration laws and the rule of law in general.
Governor Youngkin joined other Republican governors today and he announced he is sending National Guard troops in response to Abbott’s request. He said that Abbott’s briefing helped him decide to send 100 troops to the border.
“The ongoing border crisis facing our nation has turned every state into a border state,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin said in a statement. “As leadership solutions at the federal level fall short, states are answering the call to secure our southern border, reduce the flow of fentanyl, combat human trafficking and address the humanitarian crisis.”
Youngkin released a statement that also mentions his concerns about the flow of fentanyl into the country from the border. It is made in Mexico with Chinese precursors. Youngkin said that an average of five Virginians die each day from fentanyl.
“Given the intensive resource demands on Texas, the dangers posed by the fentanyl crisis, and impact of the border crisis on criminal activity to the Commonwealth, Virginia will do its part to assist the State of Texas’ efforts with the coordinated deployment of Virginia National Guard soldiers to assist in key aspects of their mission,” Youngkin said.
Iowa, Tennessee, Nebraska, Mississippi, and Florida have all announced deployments. Red states are helping Texas do Biden’s job.

DHS continues to accuse Abbott and the others of political stunts.
“Outstanding coordination is taking place at the local level each and every day. We have seen, however, at times that Gov. DeSantis and [Texas Gov. Greg Abbott] take actions that are being done really for purely political reasons and that do not involve the kind of coordination that we really need to see at the border,” Department of Homeland Security official Blas Nunez-Neto told reporters earlier this month.
“We are confident in our men and women on the front lines, ability to conduct their border operations in a safe, humane and secure manner. And we again call on the governors to make sure that any steps they take are done in coordination with our federal personnel,” he said.
Texans have confidence in the men and women on the front lines, too. However, they are under-supported by the federal government. They are overwhelmed and unable to do their jobs. Shame on the Biden administration for putting them in that position.
