Biden’s Classified Documents Scandal May be Heating Up Quickly
More than a year ago, Merrick Garland surprisingly appointed special counsel Robert Hur to investigate the discovery of classified documents in the possession of Joe Biden at multiple locations. In the nearly 13 months that followed we heard virtually nothing about this investigation, leading me to believe that the entire thing had simply been swept under the rug in typical Biden Inc. fashion. Imagine my surprise when an item popped up in the New York Post this week claiming that Hur’s report on the results of the investigation was complete and that a report would be issued, possibly as soon as this week. Depending on what he found (a very big question) this could lead to a serious political black eye for Biden just as the presidential election season is heating up. This reportedly has Biden’s reelection team “worried” about the possible exposure of “embarrassing details.” So will anything come of this?
President Biden’s 2024 re-election team members are worried that a Justice Department report on his retention of classified documents will unearth “embarrassing details,” according to a new report.
Attorney General Merrick Garland tapped special counsel Robert Hur to investigate the matter on Jan. 12, 2023, following FBI searches of Biden’s post-vice presidency Washington, DC, office and Delaware mansion for the sensitive files.
More than a year later, the Biden camp anticipates Hur’s team will release its final report on the classified documents inquiry as soon as this week, with information and photos that could complicate the president’s re-election effort, Axios reported.
It’s not as if there wasn’t plenty for Hur to find. It was widely reported that classified documents had been discovered at the Penn Biden Center in Washington. More documents were discovered at Biden’s mansions in Delaware and other locations. The FBI was even summoned to check out the situation.
It seems almost impossible at this point that Hur could conclude that there was nothing inappropriate going on or that no laws were broken. Too much water has passed under the bridge to attempt anything that obvious. So a report will likely be released and it will conclude that Joe Biden improperly kept hundreds of classified documents, despite the fact that his attorneys were given a head start to attempt to clean things up before investigators arrived.
But what happens next? There’s always the possibility of the infamous “prosecutorial discretion” that the Biden Justice Department has become famous for. But the optics of that are simply terrible. Would they really try to claim that there was nothing going on that would merit prosecution at the same time that they are actively working to put Donald Trump in prison for the same thing? I wouldn’t put it past them.
It’s also worth remembering that the two situations are not identical, at least not in all cases. All of Trump’s documents date back to his time as President. He could at least plausibly attempt to make the argument that he had declassified the documents before departing with them. Of course, without some matching documentation at the White House that might be a tough sell.
Conversely, many of Joe Biden’s documents are from when he was the Vice President. The Veep has no authority to declassify anything of his own volition. If anything, that should be an even more serious violation than anything Trump has been accused of. And yet, Biden’s handlers are worried about “embarrassment” while Trump is trying to avoid jail time. But no matter what excuse they find to not go after Joe Biden, this will only add fuel to the fire in terms of Americans understanding that we are now living under a two-tier system of justice, where the perceived enemies of the Washington uniparty are not just prosecuted but persecuted, and their friends are given a pass. If that isn’t clear to some people yet, they need to take off their blinders.
