‘Good Luck!’ Trump’s Response to Tim Scott 2024 Bid Includes Swipe at ‘DeSanctimonious’

President Donald Trump issued remarks Monday responding to Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) entering the presidential race, taking the opportunity to also criticize Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R).

“Good luck to Senator Tim Scott in entering the Republican Presidential Primary Race,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The former president proceeded to take a swipe at DeSantis, saying, “It is rapidly loading up with lots of people, and Tim is a big step up from Ron DeSanctimonious, who is totally unelectable. I got Opportunity Zones done with Tim, a big deal that has been highly successful,” adding, “Good luck Tim!”

Trump’s “opportunity zones” reference harkens back to a policy Sen. Scott helped formulate with his administration, which aimed to incentivize investment and economic development in certain low-income areas to boost job creation and improve communities.

Sen. Scott, 57, endorsed Trump during the 2020 presidential election, appearing at the RNC in support of his re-election campaign in August 2020.

Trump likewise returned the favor by giving Scott his “complete and total endorsement” when he sought reelection as senator during the 2022 midterms.

Addressing Scott’s announcement Monday, former Arizona GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake joked, “Who? Just kidding,” before going on to predict Trump would be the Republican nominee, saying, “Let’s not kid ourselves here.”

Meanwhile, Scott already appears to be giving DeSantis a run for his money!

We’ll see over the coming months how the rest of the Republican field shakes out and indeed whether Ron DeSantis even throws his hat in the ring, as he’s expected to do this week.
