UPDATE — July 18, 5:17PM CT: Live Nation Middle East, the concert promoter behind rapper Travis Scott’s upcoming concert at the pyramids in Giza, has contradicted earlier reports that the show was canceled by Egyptian authorities, saying it will proceed as planned.

In a statement to music news site Pitchfork, Live Nation reportedly wrote in regards to the July 28th performance: “There have been no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt; any reports to the contrary are false. We can’t wait to celebrate ‘Utopia’ with you in Egypt!”

The statement was in response to a message from Egypt’s Musical Professions Syndicate saying they were revoking the concert’s permit based on research and “strange rituals.”

Rolling Stone reported they were unable to “find contact information for the Musicians Syndicate, and that “An email to Egypt’s Ministry of Culture was not immediately returned.”

Egyptian officials have canceled a concert by rapper Travis Scott set to be staged at the iconic Giza Pyramids landmark, claiming “strange rituals” conducted during his performance could conflict with the country’s societal values.

The Egyptian Syndicate of Musical Professions, responsible for approving performance permits, issued a statement Tuesday saying the rapper’s concert scheduled for July 28 could tamper with the country’s customs and guidelines.

“Since the General Syndicate is part of the fabric of this beloved country it is keen on its stability and refuses to tamper with societal values and Egyptian and Arab customs,” reads the statement.

“Based on research and documented information about strange rituals at Travis’s concerts that are inconsistent with our authentic societal values and traditions, the Board of Directors has decided to cancel the license issued to hold this type of concert that contradicts the cultural identity of the Egyptian people.”

The statement did not elaborate on the “strange rituals” mentioned, but past Travis Scott concerts have been criticized for featuring bizarre illuminati symbolism, satanic imagery and possibly a human sacrifice — or 10.

Scott was sued after a performance at Astroworld in Houston, Texas, in 2021, led to the deaths of 10 people, with many believing the deadly performance containing bizarre esoteric themes was a giant satanic ritual where people were supposedly expected to die.

Speaking to Egyptian media, Egyptian lawyer Amr Abdelsalam claimed Scott was a supporter of “global freemasonry” and performs “Satanic rites” on stage.

“This singer has a black record,” the lawyer stated. “He is known to be a staunch supporter of global Freemasonry and the Afrocentric organization that opposes Egyptian identity and heritage.”

“In his shows, the American rapper performs the full range of Satanic rites,” he said, adding, “the well-being of Egyptian citizens is more important to us than holding such a show and justifying it by saying that we need to invigorate tourism.”

He went on to describe strange happenings at the Astroworld show in 2021.

“This rapper [has been] banned from singing and holding shows in the US since 2021. In his latest show, dozens were killed, and hundreds were injured. Eyewitnesses documented that the type of music he was playing radiated negative energy, and bizarre things happened to people who attended the show.”

Despite the apparent cancellation, music news site Hypebeast reports Scott’s concert where he was planning to launch his new Utopia album will proceed as planned.
