No, Michelle Obama Is Not Running for President

Happy Super Tuesday, y’all!  Voters in sixteen states will cast ballots today. About one-third of all delegates may be won today, more than any other day.

My state votes today. Texas Republicans have 161 delegates. The Texas Republican convention will be held at the end of May. Like in other states, there isn’t any suspense as to who will win. Donald Trump has a huge lead in polls over Nikki Haley in Texas. The last poll I saw between Trump and Haley in Texas was several weeks ago and Trump was ahead of Haley by 71 points. I have no reason to think that anything has changed.

It is widely speculated that Trump will win all of the Super Tuesday states. Will Nikki Haley stay in the race anyway? I heard her indicate earlier today that she has no plans of dropping out any time soon.

On the Democrat side, there is no doubt that it will be a winning night for President Biden. He’s the incumbent and Democrat voters figure they are stuck with him – that’s the only reason I come up with for why they support the demented old man. Some loyal voters in the party’s base are gullible enough to believe the Biden administration’s gaslighting that The Big Guy is up for the job for another four years and he has done an excellent job in office. Please. Administration officials should realize that the voters they are trying to convince shop for groceries every week and pay their monthly bills while trying to make ends meet in Biden’s economy. 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck.

Democrats seem to be resigned to the fact that the general election in November will be a rerun of Trump vs Biden. A majority of voters in both parties don’t want to see that, but, here we are. Unless something big happens between now and the conventions this summer, Biden and Trump will be the nominees.

Many Democrats are now coming forward to voice concern about Biden’s ability to campaign and win against Trump in November. What has been discussed privately for months is now public discussion – can Democrats replace Biden? Can they convince him to retire?

I wrote about a very long and detailed interview that a reporter with The New Yorker did with Biden. It was published yesterday. The conclusion is that Joe Biden isn’t going anywhere. He thinks he is the only one who can beat Donald Trump. The old man has quite a large ego. He is also sheltered in a bubble by his handlers. He is clueless about the reality on the ground. All polls show Trump winning in November. Trump is especially strong when the issues are broken down and in voter demographics. Biden is underwater on most issues, in particular the top two, which are immigration and border security and the economy. He’s lost substantial support among women, black voters, Hispanic voters, and young voters.

Enter the name of Michelle Obama. For reasons I don’t understand, her name has remained a constant in conversations about who might replace old Joe on the ballot. Michelle Obama is a very popular public figure among all black people and Democrats in particular. She wasn’t a very energetic first lady, which I appreciated, but she did try to take over school lunch programs and it was a disaster. She often focused on women and children’s issues, which is normal, but where has she been in the debate about transgender athletes in women’s sports? Where is she in calling for justice for the women held hostage by Hamas? Where is she when discussions are made about Hamas using rape as a weapon of war?

Michelle Obama has repeatedly said she doesn’t want to be a politician. Why should she? She has a huge public platform to do her political work. She helps with voter registration drives, she encourages get-out-the-vote efforts in swing states and tight races. And, she is making a boatload of money as a private citizen. What is the up side to her entering politics?

Some of former President Obama’s political advisers and staff are openly voicing their frustration with Biden and how his campaign is being run. They read the polls like everyone else. Times are grim for Democrats in presidential polls. Obama, in general, is making noises as though he supports his pal, Joe. He is set to do fundraising for him and the Democrat Party. Obama and Clinton did a video with Biden to attract a wide audience.

Michelle Obama’s office released a statement.

In a statement to NBC News, the former first lady’s office tried to rein in imaginations on the right and the left, making it clear her 2024 plans don’t include running for office.

“As former First Lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president,” said Crystal Carson, director of communications for her office. “Mrs. Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ re-election campaign.”

That is clear enough. The one that Democrats may or may not look to is California Governor Gavin Newsom. He is running a shadow campaign. If something happens and Biden is not the candidate in November, Newsom is ready for his close-up. I would love to see a Newsom vs Trump election. Trump would mop the floor with him.

Democrats are stuck with Biden. Michelle Obama isn’t going to bail them out.
