Trump Leads Biden, Harris & Newsom in Hypothetical Matchups, Poll Shows
Former President Donald Trump holds leads over Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in hypothetical 2024 matchups, according to a new poll.
The Emerson College poll published Friday shows 45% of the 1,225 registered voters surveyed favor Trump in a race against Biden, who was at 44%.
Trump’s lead widens when third-party candidates are factored in, leading at 40% against Biden at 38% and independent candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr. at 7%.

Hypothetical matchups against other Democrats also show Trump ahead.
In a matchup against Harris, Trump leads with 46% to 43%.
The poll shows Trump has a wider lead of 46% against Newsom’s 36%, with another 18% undecided.
Finally, Trump trounces Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) at 45% against her 33%.
The poll comes amid heightened concerns among voters over Biden’s age and mental acuity, which has come into the media spotlight after Special Counsel Robert Hur declined to bring charges against Biden for mishandling classified records, citing his frail cognitive state.

It also comes ahead of the Republican primaries in South Carolina and Michigan later this month, where Trump far surpasses his closest rival Nikki Haley by at least 50 points.
