Flashback: Actor Kurt Russell Defends 2A Against Gun-Grabbing Hollywood Liberals
A-list actor Kurt Russell defends gun ownership and challenges an anti-gun Hollywood liberal, in a viral interview recirculating on social media.
In the interview from 2015, the The Thing actor explains to Hollywood Elsewhere‘s Jeffrey Wells why banning people on the no-fly list from owning guns won’t stop violent crime, and that attempting to control people’s behavior is not the answer.
“Yeah, I don’t understand the concepts of conversation of ‘the gun culture.’ We’ve lived with guns since what the seventh century or something. I don’t know,” Russell tells Wells, who responds guns are a metaphor that “disenfranchised white guys need.”
“It makes them feel good,” Wells adds.
“Look, if you think gun control or something like that is going to change a terrorist’s point of view I think you’re, like, out of your mind,” the Escape from New York star responds. “I think it’s absolutely insane.”
Russell continues: “The problem we’re having right now is that we don’t have the concepts of how to turn it around and say, ‘You know, you may think you’ve got me worried about what you’re gonna do, dude. You’re about to find out what I’m gonna do,’ and that’s gonna worry you a lot more.”
“And that’s what we need, that will change the concept of ‘gun culture’ as you call it to something of reality,” Russell says.
Elsewhere, Russell points out terrorists intent on causing harm don’t need guns and “can also make a bomb pretty easily. They can also get knives and stab you.”
“What are you gonna do about that?” he asks. “They can also get cars and run you over with them. What are you gonna do about that?”
“So what are you gonna do? Outlaw everything?” Russell questions. “That isn’t the answer.”
“I understand that you think you can control the behavior of people that are dead set on taking your way of life away from you, I think you think you can control that,” Russell continues. “And there’s only one thing you can do with that and that’s say, ‘No dude, that’s not gonna happen.’”
