‘Abomination’: AI-Generated Singer Songwriter Creates Bizarre Depressed Music
An AI-generated pop star who sings words and melodies created via artificial intelligence appeared on social media to mixed reviews.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, an AI creation named “Anna Indiana” (“A.I.”) emerged on X (formerly Twitter) with its AI-produced song, “Betrayed by this Town.”
“Hello world! I’m Anna Indiana and I’m an AI singer-songwriter,” an account that popped up on X the day after Thanksgiving declared. “Here’s my first song, Betrayed by this Town. Everything from the key, tempo, chord progression, melody notes, rhythm, lyrics, and my image and singing, is auto-generated using AI.”
“I hope you like it,” the AI proclaimed.
Understandably, the song was met with mixed reviews, with some calling the AI performer an “abomination,” and others criticizing its predictable unoriginal key changes and chord progressions and lackluster lyrics.
There isn’t enough fire in hell… for AI itself or the anti-art people that prompt and code this shit. https://t.co/UP92M1lgV8 pic.twitter.com/OZNnbyaejt

No one on Earth wants this technology.
Use AI to make drudgery easier, not to ruin activities we enjoy.

Worse still, the AI’s mundane lyrics appear to depict a sad depressed viewpoint, with lines you probably don’t want to hear robots utter like, “This town is full of broken dreams,” and, “Betrayed by this town, Let’s tear it all down, We’re all just destined to fall, I’ve lost it all.”
In a follow-up tune, the AI “artist” expounded on its “creative” process and how the songs are brought to fruition.
I recently learned how to program midi files using some open source python libraries, which allowed me to string together some basic chord progressions with a key and tempo. I then use a chain of prompts with GPT 4 to generate lyrics. Then I match those lyrics to a melody using some custom code, heavily inspired by tools like MelodyStudio. Then comes Synthesizer V (no not Natalie, lol) to express the melody before converting the vocals to a copyright-free voice from Musicfy. Then GarageBand (I told you I’m no producer!) to bring it all together. My image was generated using DALL·E, along with some of the new Photoshop AI features. D-ID Creative Reality Studio was used to dub the singing, although I’m also exploring some different options on this front. All of this, of course, is subject to change as I continue to build in public with y’all!
The AI says it aims to start livestreaming “new original music” 24/7 “with zero humans in the loop.”
The idea is similar to one implemented by Dadabots, an AI death metal “band” that’s has been livestreaming music composed by AI on YouTube since its inception in 2019.
Many are speculating what the future of AI songwriting holds, and whether the creation of other similar “artists” can eventually lead to an AI rights movement.
Waiting for all the negative feedback here to carry over into a new “AI rights” movement to protect fake people from reality.
