Morbidly Obese BLM Activist Accused of Defaming Student Hired by Dove Soap Company to Promote ‘Fat Liberation’

The Dove soap company is facing criticism for promoting the fat acceptance and body positivity movement by hiring a morbidly obese BLM activist who at one time falsely accused a female college student of making a racist remark.

Last week, the Unilever-owned soap brand announced it had partnered with University of Virginia (UVA) student Zyanha Bryant to lead their “movement to end body size discrimination.”

“My belief is that we should be centering the voices and the experiences of the most marginalized people and communities at all times,” Bryant, 22, said in a video following her newfound role with the company.

“So when I think about what fat liberation looks like to me, I think about centering the voices of those who live in and who maneuver through spaces and institutions in a fat body.”

Her video was captioned: “Fat liberation is something we should all be talking about … Tell us what Fat Liberation means to you using the hashtag #SizeFreedom and tagging @dove to share your story.”

Aside from Dove’s promotion of a dangerously unhealthy lifestyle, many on social media also took issue with the fact Bryant in July 2020 wrongly accused fellow UVA student Morgan Bettinger of saying BLM activists occupying a roadway “would make good speedbumps.”

The false accusations took on a life of their own and became the subject of news reports, essentially ruining Bettinger’s reputation.

The issue sparked a boycott on X/Twitter, with one person taking a photo of their Dove products thrown in the trash while others called for a Bud Light-style protest.

Dove so far has ignored the backlash on social media, but it remains to be seen if they can weather the storm, or if the brand will suffer the same fate as Bud Light.
