Senate Democrats Are Freaking Out Over Biden’s Terrible Poll Numbers

Senate Democrats are expressing deep frustration with Joe Biden’s floundering poll numbers and are not optimistic the White House will be able to shift its messaging by the 2024 election.

Two-third of Democrat voters think 80-year-old Biden is too old to run for reelection, and 58% of all voters hold an unfavorable view of him.

“You got to be concerned about those poll numbers, you just do,” Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) told The Hill.  “There’s plenty of time to get them back up. Whether he can or not, I just don’t know but you got to be concerned.”

Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) said it’s “frustrating” to see Biden’s numbers so bad and insisted that voters don’t understand that inflation has gotten better in recent months.

“They think inflation is still running away. Inflation has come from 9 percent to 3, now 3.5 percent,” he said. “It’s, relatively speaking, under control. Now we’re not at 2 percent, but we’re darn close,” referring to the Federal Reserve’s 2 percent inflation target.

“What can you do? You have to continue to try and find fresh ways of talking about this,” he added. “I think we have to find some fresh ways of letting people know that the reality of what we’re seeing is little short of a miracle.”

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said Biden’s poor numbers are attributed to poor messaging of “Bidenomics.”

“There’s work to be done, stronger messaging, more aggressive campaigning but we’re still very, very early,” Blumenthal said.

But if the choices are between Biden and former President Donald Trump, he says, Biden should be able to appeal more to independents and other voters who think Trump “produces chaos.”

“The fundamental here is elections are about choices,” he said. “When voters — when we are six months before the election before a year and a half — are looking at both Trump and Biden, even the people who like Trump’s results don’t want four more years of Trump.”

But when asked how worried he is about Biden’s poll numbers, Blumenthal said: “This election is going to be a fight. No question, it’s going to be a fight and we need to be prepared.”

Another Democrat senator who requested anonymity said Biden’s polling data “reflect all the miscellaneous encounters I’m having all the time.”

“There’s just no enthusiasm,” the senator said. “It does pretty much come down to ‘Well, he’s done a pretty good job, but he’s just too old.’”

Meanwhile, a several recent polls found Trump and Biden are tied in a head to head matchup in 2024.
