Overwhelming Evidence Shows Trees Falling on Power Lines During High Winds Caused Maui Firestorm

A growing body of evidence points to high winds paired with neglected overgrowth of trees & other vegetation near power lines as the cause of the wildfires in Maui.

Despite the unconstitutional ‘media free zone’ imposed around the devastation, citizen journalists are combining their findings to get the truth out.

First, many video accounts are showing unusually strong winds ahead of the fire:

Couple that with the reportedly criminally neglected maintenance of vegetation near power lines:

Hawaii Electric company’s own website shows its own safety rules were not followed:

In windy weather, unattached tree limbs can be blown onto the power lines creating problems … When working on trees that are near power lines, a ten-foot minimum clearance from the lines is required for safety purposes … We are legally required to maintain our facilities and equipment.

As the above video demonstrated, the vegetation near power lines in Maui was severely ignored.

The electric company’s safety page goes on to describe its ‘Vegetation Management Program.”

“Vegetation management is one of many efforts Hawaiian Electric uses to help ensure the reliability of your electrical service. We regularly inspect trees growing near power lines and contract certified vegetation management crews to trim trees growing into power lines along roadways throughout the island.

Trees that require pruning are those that currently, or will within a year, encroach on high-voltage power lines. Tree inspectors assess the location of trees and their growth rate. In addition, we take into consideration limb configuration and potential wind conditions.”

Multiple accounts from the region demonstrate the company was not compliant with its own safety regulations.

Many are now raising alarm on why a catastrophe seemingly caused by a brazen lack of stewardship is being responded to with urgent plans by the government to acquire the valuable land.
